Job Description & Requirements

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a 40 bed unit that provides comprehensive medical and surgical intensive care for children from birth to 21 years old. The PICU is Maryland's only Level 1 pediatric trauma center and state-designated pediatric burn ICU for children up to 15 years of age. Medical diagnoses include respiratory failure, metabolic disorders, seizure disorders, multiorgan failure, shock, toxic ingestions, and neonatal and pediatric ECMO. Surgeries include extensive general, cardiac, thoracic, orthopedic, and neurologic procedures.

Required Qualifications

Candidates for the Experienced Registered Nurse position on the Pediatric PICU must maintain active RN licensure in the state of Maryland. Bachelor’s Degree from an Accredited School of Nursing preferred. Associate Degree candidates may be considered, provided they are either currently enrolled, or will shortly be enrolled in an accredited RN to BSN program. Eighteen months of recent RN experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

-BSN/MSN preferred. Must be from an accredited nursing program. -Applicants with an Associate's degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program may be considered; provided they are enrolled in an accredited BSN/MSN program within 1 year of hire -Active Maryland or Compact RN license is required -BLS CPR certification required: AHA, Red Cross, or Military Training Network accepted -RN work experience required -Ability to role model and support practices consistent with evidenced based care, guide others with plan of care, independently make clinical decisions in complex situations, and proactively assist others with patient assignment.
