Job Description & Requirements

22 bed unit - 9 psychogeriatric beds, 11 chronic pain beds and 2 ICU beds for overnight Busy unit - giving meds, running charge eventually, admitting and discharging patients - just depends on which role you are playing Use a lot of alternate pain control methods Have a fair amount medical comorbidities might have IV's central lines, antibiotics -manage medical aspect but do not monitor patients

Required Qualifications

ADN to BSN prefers BSN Minimum 1 year experience - interest in psychiatry not mandated - Med surg experience would be fine

Preferred Qualifications

Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills to establish working relationships that fosters optimal quality patient care. Ability to use a computer keyboard to input and obtain data. Ability to document legibly using a writing instrument. Ability to apply principles of evidenced-based practice, scientific process, and service excellence in practice. D. Required Licensure, Certification, Etc. Current registered nurse license in the state of Maryland, or licensed in a compact state. E. Work Experience Eighteen months of experience as a registered nurse. F. Machines, Tools, Equipment: General physiologic monitoring and patient care equipment such as defibrillator and glucometer monitor. Computers. DIMENSIONS: A. Budget Responsibility: Requires effective use of resources and cost awareness. B. Authority/Decision Making Level Accountable for own patient care decisions. C. Supervisory Responsibility: Implements counseling, discipline, and performance management of unit staff with input from NCIIE, NCIII, or Nurse Manager. PROBLEM SOLVING: Identifies impending changes in patient condition; identifies individual and unit issues and initiates corrective action; understands and uses principles of conflict resolution. INFORMATION MANAGEMENT Analyzes data to deliver and evaluate care and organizational processes. WORKING CONDITIONS: Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, radiation, and pharmacological agents. Work requires standing and/or walking for extended periods of time. Work requires lifting 35lbs without assistance, unless special accommodations are in place. When lifting weight above 35 lbs assistance or assistive lifting devices should be used. Work may require contact with aggressive and/or combative patients Work requires manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to perform patient care procedures. Employees in this position will be required to adhere to work availability and unit scheduling requirements. This may include, but is not limited to shift work, availability status, enhanced pay shifts and on call.
