What are the minimum requirements?
You must be a graduate of an accredited health care professional program in the United States or Canada and have at least 12 consecutive months of experience in your specialty, with good references.

Will traveling look good on my résumé?
Yes! Working as a travel nurse demonstrates your dedication to your profession, as well as personal adaptability and flexibility in your clinical practice. The travel health care industry is well understood by nurse managers and hospital human resource professionals. If you seek a permanent position after working as a traveler, your résumé will be strengthened by your list of travel assignments.

Are there any fees associated with applying as a travel nurse?
No, never. Applying to work as a travel nurse is 100 percent free and confidential.

Do I have to commit to a long-term contract?
No. With our travel partners your commitment only extends for the length of the assignment you agree to take.

About travel assignments

How long are travel assignments?
Typically, assignments range from 4 to 13 weeks. However, our travel partners can offer shorter or longer assignments customized to your needs. For example, NurseChoice offers 4- to 8-week assignments.

What areas can I travel to on assignment?
Our travel partners offer assignments in all 50 states, across all disciplines and specialties. From major cities to rural communities, you can work in just about any location you desire.

Will I work full time or part time on assignment?
All travel assignments are for full time 36- or 40-hour work weeks. If you would like more hours, however, many assignments also offer the opportunity to work overtime.

What kind of facility will I work in as a traveler?
Our travel partners' assignments are primarily in hospital settings. The size of the hospitals can range from very large teaching hospitals to small community facilities.

How do I choose an assignment?
Once you submit your application, you will be assigned a recruiter. You and your recruiter will discuss your assignment expectations, career goals and your desired destination in order to find the best assignment for you. You will then be presented with available assignments, including details on the pay rate, facility, unit, shifts, location and bonuses. You will choose which facilities you would like to interview with. All interviews are done over the phone. Your recruiter will help you prepare for the interview by giving you tips and guidance to help you land the job. If you are offered the assignment, you can decide whether to accept it or not.

Can I work as a traveler in my hometown?
Yes, our travel partners have plenty of local "travel" opportunities that allow you to work close to home, yet still enjoy all the benefits of travel nursing. It's a great way to balance your home life with a flexible and rewarding career.

Can I travel with my family or pets?
Absolutely! It's a great way to explore the country and to share the fun and excitement of your travel experiences. Housing complexes often require a pet deposit for which you will be responsible.

Is it possible to take an assignment with a friend?
Yes! Many health care travelers select their assignments together and either work at the same hospital or at different facilities in the same city. Some share apartments while others arrange to have their own private apartments in the same complex.

How long will it take before I can start my first assignment?
Some travelers start their first assignment a week after submitting their application, while others plan their assignments several months down the road. How quickly you can start traveling depends on whether your documentation is in order and whether your license is current for the state where you will be practicing. Our travel partners will work with you to help you get all your paperwork and credential requirements organized in time for your assignment start date.

What are the state licensing requirements for my assignment?
Your recruiter will advise you on the specific requirements for the state in which you have chosen to take an assignment. For more information, visit our state licensing section.

What happens after I complete my assignment?
The choice is yours. Many facilities will give you the option of extending your current assignment, or they may offer you a permanent position at their facility. If you prefer, you can travel to a new assignment, or even return home and travel at a later date. It's entirely up to you.

Compensation and benefits

How much money will I make?
Your pay rate will depend on the facility, location and clinical specialty, but the pay rates are generally higher than for equally experienced permanent staff. New! RNs can receive excellent take home pay rates with our partner companies. Travelers with our partner companies can now see up to 15% more in each paycheck and maximize their travel nursing pay with more take home pay. Quick-start, short-term assignments can pay even higher rates for nurses who are flexible enough to travel immediately.

Apply now or contact our partners for more details on take home pay.

What benefits will I receive?
Our travel partners offer a wide variety of benefits including free health, dental and life insurance, free private housing, 401(k) retirement plans, free continuing education, travel reimbursement, incentive programs and much more.

Will I still have health care benefits if I'm not on assignment?
Yes. With our travel partners, you may take up to 33 days off between assignments and still maintain your health benefits.

Will I be eligible for bonuses?
Of course. Our travel partners regularly offer sign-on bonuses and many hospitals offer generous completion bonuses, ranging from $500 to $6,000. For specific information, please speak to a recruiter.

Housing

Is housing really free?
Yes, our travel partners all offer their travelers private, quality housing at no cost. Also, once you select a destination, our travel partners' housing managers do all the work to secure furnished housing in a neighborhood close to your facility.

What type of housing is provided?
Our travel partners work with only the most reputable apartment communities to provide you with comfortable and attractive housing conveniently located near your assignment. Your accommodations will be in move-in condition upon your arrival, complete with furniture and utilities. Many of their properties even feature luxurious amenities, including pools, spas, fitness centers and tennis courts.

Will I be provided with accommodations if I travel with my spouse and/or children?
Yes, you will be provided with private accommodations in a comfortable setting close to your workplace. If you require private two-bedroom accommodations, you may need to pay a nominal fee. This fee will vary depending on the location and the assignment. Alternatively, if you prefer, you can find your own accommodations and the travel company will pay you a generous monthly housing subsidy.

Will I receive a subsidy if I stay with family or friends?
Yes, if you provide your own housing accommodations for your assignment, our travel partners will offer you a monthly housing subsidy. The housing subsidy varies depending on the assignment and the location.

Will I be provided with free housing if I have a pet?
